Description

El Parral (1987), is the first of the woodwind quartets composed by Andrés Barrios.

The piece evokes the memories the composer lived in El Parral, a bar in downtown Caracas where he used to go along with his music student friends back in the 80s. Frequenting this place inspired many of the works that Andrés Barrios would later publish in his Poemas Tomados. Andrés Barrios himself says that at night, the musicians drew their instruments and made such a racket that the owner almost always… appreciated it. This piece recalls a lot of that feeling of excitement and happiness.
